[Reuters: North Korea Selects and Trains Hackers from Age 11, Offering Up to 30% Cut of Successful Attacks] According to Reuters, North Korea has established a hacker training system that has been operating for over a decade: each year, approximately 150 to 200 students aged 11 or 12 are selected from middle school to study computer science. The most outstanding students enter top universities at age 17 and undergo further selection, with only a small number ultimately joining the military's cyber forces. The report, citing North Korean defectors, states that the military units to which the hackers work can receive up to 30% of the stolen profits in US dollars, with top hackers also receiving housing in Pyongyang and large sums of foreign exchange as rewards. South Korea's National Intelligence Service estimated in 2024 that North Korea has approximately 8,400 cyber warfare personnel.
