[Nasdaq to Launch 23/5 Trading on December 6, with Only One Hour of Closure Daily] According to DeepFlow TechFlow, on November 3, Nasdaq announced on its official website that it will officially launch a "23/5" trading system on Sunday, December 6th at 9 PM Eastern Time. US stock trading will be extended to 23 hours a day, 5 days a week.
The new system adds an evening trading session from 9 PM Eastern Time to 4 AM the following day, which, together with the existing pre-market (4 AM to 9:30 AM) and after-hours (4 PM to 8 PM) sessions, constitutes the "Global Trading Hours." Trading will run from 9 PM Sunday to 8 PM Friday, with a one-hour break from 8 PM to 9 PM each trading day for system maintenance, corporate actions, and switching trading days.
The regular trading session from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, as well as the opening and closing call auctions, remain unchanged, and the closing price will continue to serve as the official benchmark price. Trades executed between 9 p.m. and midnight will be carried over to the next trading day, and the settlement rules remain unchanged. Regarding risk control, the SEC has approved revisions to the relevant LULD (Likely to be an incomplete or incomplete trading plan) program, requiring night trading orders to be placed within a 20% range above and below the reference price.
Nasdaq stated that the launch date is still contingent on the readiness of the Securities Information Processor (SIP) and relevant SEC rule changes.
