[Two Brothers Sentenced in Minnesota Cryptocurrency Kidnapping Case, Involving Over $8 Million] According to a report by DeepFlow TechFlow on October 30, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Minnesota, USA, brothers Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia from Texas were sentenced on October 29 by Federal District Judge Donovan W. Frank to 180 months and 186 months in prison, respectively, for the armed kidnapping of a family in Grant, Minnesota, in September 2025 and the subsequent extortion of cryptocurrency. Both pleaded guilty on June 18, 2026.
According to court documents, the two traveled from Texas to Minnesota on September 19, 2025, where they held the victim's family at gunpoint in their home, binding and detaining them with cable ties for over nine hours, demanding they transfer cryptocurrency. Because the victim's initial transfer amount did not meet their expectations, the two men coerced him into driving to their vacation home in northern Minnesota, where they retrieved more cryptocurrency storage devices and continued transferring funds, ultimately forcing him to transfer over $8 million in cryptocurrency. After the victim's son reported the incident to the police, the two men fled the scene and were subsequently arrested near Houston, Texas.
