I sold Google put options on October 30th at 330, with a premium of around ten dollars. This is roughly equivalent to buying Google stock at a 97% discount to the current price after Google's earnings report tonight. If the closing price on October 30th is still around 320, I'll switch to regular stock. If it rises above 330, the premium is mine. This is practically equivalent to buying Google stock at the current price. 330 is already considered cheap, considering Google's PE ratio is currently the lowest among the top ten tech stocks in the US, only in the teens. And Google's growth rate isn't low either. With its traditional business and AI business, Google is almost a full-stack all-rounder. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway's latest purchase cost was around 360. Buying now is equivalent to a 10%+ drop from BRK's cost. You've already made a 10% profit by breaking even. This information is still relevant today because Google's earnings report won't be released until after the market closes. You still have plenty of time to sell put options tonight. My thinking is that I'd be willing to buy Google at 330. If it drops to 300, I'll buy at 320. If it rises above 330, I already have a position, so I can collect the premium and not lose money. When others bet on whether the market will rise or fall, especially selling put options before and after earnings reports, it's essentially gambling. This relates to the gambling mentality and the "gambler's mentality" I mentioned before. Buying calls or put options before earnings reports is a gambler's mentality; selling put options before earnings reports is a gambling mentality. Don't focus on the wins and losses of individual trades. Long-term positive EV is high. Repeat small amounts multiple times.
