Microsoft Plans Voluntary Severance Package for Approximately 60,000 Employees to Reduce AI Investment Costs
According to a Forbes report on October 27th, Microsoft announced on October 26th that it plans to offer voluntary severance packages to approximately 60,000 eligible employees in the US, Canada, India, and the UK, affecting about 27% of the company's workforce. The package covers multiple departments including Copilot, Finance, Human Resources, and Xbox, but excludes senior management and some marketing, business, and security teams.
Microsoft Chief Human Resources Officer Amy Coleman stated that the company hopes this package will increase organizational flexibility and provide employees with more career options. Employees must decide whether to accept the package in December, with those accepting expected to leave on December 31st.
This is Microsoft's further restructuring of its workforce this year. Earlier this year, Microsoft offered early retirement packages to approximately 8,750 US employees, with about 30% of eligible employees accepting the offer. If 30% of employees accept the voluntary resignation plan, the number of resignations will reach approximately 18,000.
