[Blink Wallet, Bitcoin Lightning Network Wallet, Begins Charging $1 Monthly Fees for Inactive Escrow Accounts Until Balance Reaches Zero]
BlockBeats reports that on October 27th, Blink Wallet, a Bitcoin Lightning Network wallet, began charging inactive escrow accounts that have been inactive for 12 consecutive months. $1 is deducted monthly for each Bitcoin and USD balance until the balance is zero. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that approximately 100,000 accounts qualify for the fee, with a total balance exceeding $800,000. The first round of deductions amounted to approximately $45,000, but this data has not yet been independently verified.
Blink stated that this move aims to cover the infrastructure and compliance costs of inactive accounts and encourage users to switch to self-custody. Fees will be automatically refunded in full upon user login; self-custody accounts are unaffected. (Bitcoin Magazine) [Original Link]
