[South Korea Postpones Cryptocurrency Tax Policy Originally Scheduled for January] According to Jinse Finance, on October 25th, the South Korean presidential office decided to postpone the cryptocurrency income tax policy originally scheduled for January next year. An official from the presidential office stated on the 25th, "The direction of related discussions leans towards postponing the implementation of the cryptocurrency tax." The South Korean government had already decided to tax virtual asset income when it revised the Income Tax Law in 2020, but the policy has already been postponed three times. Originally scheduled to take effect on January 1st next year, the presidential office has now decided to postpone it again, citing incomplete tax administration preparations and public opinion among young people. According to the revised Income Tax Law, annual income from the transfer or lending of virtual assets, after deducting a basic tax exemption of 2.5 million won, is subject to a total tax rate of 22% (including other income taxes and local income taxes).
