OKX and New York Stock Exchange parent company ICE joint venture co-chair Andrew Cuomo stated that companies opposing stock tokenization trading is a normal and expected reaction, as many prefer to observe rather than take the lead. Currently, 16 companies, including Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, and Broadcom, have opposed having their stocks tokenized on the proposed OKXICE platform.
The U.S. SEC previously introduced a five-year innovation exemption, allowing eligible platforms to experiment with tokenized stock trading through automated market makers (AMM) and liquidity pools. This exemption grants issuers the right to opt in or out, with restrictions on the number of participating stocks and trading volume. Cuomo emphasized that this mechanism is essentially a limited pilot program.
Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo pointed out that issuers are primarily concerned with pricing, investor protection, and shareholder rights. Opposition to OKXICE's trading arrangement does not necessarily mean opposition to other stock tokenization solutions.
