According to Yonhap News, the South Korean government plans to summon the five major crypto exchanges—Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, DigitalX, and Gopax—along with DAXA representatives on October 20 to discuss the crypto asset taxation system originally set to take effect in 2027. The system proposes a 22% tax on taxable income from crypto assets and has already been postponed three times. Industry insiders argue that taxation standards and infrastructure for staking, airdrops, and DeFi transactions are still incomplete, calling for another delay. Democratic Party lawmaker Park Min-kwyu has submitted an amendment to push the taxation timeline to 2029. For now, the government is proceeding with preparations based on the 2027 schedule and has not yet decided on another postponement.
