[Hormuz Strait: 12 Ship Attacks Reported in 7 Days, Experts Suggest Actual Numbers May Be Higher]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, citing the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA), data from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) indicates that approximately 12 incidents involving ships or oil tankers being attacked or targeted occurred over the past seven days. During this period, around 254 vessels passed through the Hormuz Strait, averaging about 36 ships per day. The agency also reported a total of 84 related incidents, 74 of which involved projectile attacks. Approximately three-quarters of the attacks occurred in the southern channel of the strait. However, the actual number of incidents may exceed the published figures.
Jordanian military and strategic expert, Colonel Nader Abu Zaid, believes that some vessels may be unwilling to report damage for two reasons: first, due to economic considerations, particularly insurance and related costs; second, for security and military reasons, to avoid exposing the routes used by oil tankers. Abu Zaid stated that disclosing information about ship navigation routes could make it easier for external parties to identify their travel patterns, thereby increasing the risk of future attacks on these vessels.
