[DeepSeek to Charge for Search and Fetch Calls in Certain Programming Tools Starting November 1]
According to DeepSeek's official API documentation, starting at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026, users utilizing the DeepSeek API through server-side tools in DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, and Codex will begin to incur charges for requests accessing the Search and Fetch interfaces. Previously, these calls were free of charge. Search and Fetch will be charged at 5 RMB per 1,000 successful requests, not based on tokens or the number of returned results. Failed requests, searches with no results, or timeouts will not be charged. Search is powered by DeepSeek's proprietary search engine and returns structured web results, while Fetch retrieves a single webpage and returns the Markdown content.
