[French lawmakers propose multiple digital asset tax amendments in the 2027 budget bill]
Golden Finance reported on October 16 that French lawmakers proposed several tax amendments related to digital assets during discussions on the 2027 budget.
1. Extend the current 31.4% capital gains tax to transactions involving the exchange of Bitcoin for stablecoins, limited to stablecoins that meet the MiCA definition of electronic money tokens, such as USDC.
2. Impose an exit tax on individuals holding digital assets exceeding €800,000 who relocate their tax residence outside of France.
3. Require the declaration of self-custodied holdings valued at €100,000 or more, with a maximum penalty of €10,000 for non-compliance.
4. Allow loss carryforward for up to 10 years.
On October 9, the National Assembly's Finance Committee rejected the revenue section of the budget by a vote of 31 to 3. The related amendments will need to be resubmitted. The revenue section was originally scheduled for a vote on October 20, but none of the proposals have yet become law.
