This time, Tesla's new Roadster flying car has sparked a new debate over development routes. Currently, many car manufacturers are generally using the electric multi-rotor setup, which is more like a combination of a car and a drone. This route includes players like Toyota-backed Joby, Geely's Aerofugia, and XPeng. But Tesla is taking a different approach with cold gas thrusters, allowing the car to lift off the ground and move short distances quickly—more like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. So far, there are no competitors on this route. The reason they can pull this off is that Musk owns both the rocket company SpaceX and the car company Tesla. The roughly 10 cold gas thrusters installed on the car are a masterpiece from SpaceX—it's all in-house. Now the real test begins for domestic followers like Xiaomi's Lei Jun, Li Auto, XPeng, and others. Should they also partner with a rocket company to share tech and jump on the bandwagon?
