Ledger is making smartphones now?
$849, Android + Ledger OS dual system, with a cold wallet built right into the phone!
Ledger has launched a new device called Ledger Atom. It looks almost identical to a regular Android phone, featuring a 6.8-inch screen, 5G support, third-party apps, and even AI Agent management.
But it doesn’t have traditional phone functions like voice calls or SMS. The official positioning is a secure device specifically for managing digital assets and privacy.
Dual-system architecture.
One system is Android, handling internet access, app usage, and asset management.
The other is Ledger OS, running on an independent secure chip, dedicated to storing private keys and signing transactions.
When you need to make a transfer, the FPGA chip will cut off Android’s control over the screen and touch input at the hardware level, allowing Ledger OS to take over transaction confirmation.
According to Ledger’s design, even if Android is hacked, it won’t be able to directly access private keys or tamper with transaction details in the secure mode.
It also has a physical privacy switch that can directly cut off the circuits for the camera and microphone.
In the future, managing wallets, signing transactions, and authorizing AI Agent operations can all be done on a single device, without needing to connect to another phone.
The founder’s edition is priced at $849, with the official version expected to cost $899, and delivery planned for summer 2027.
Hardware isolation can protect private keys, but it can’t stop users from willingly signing malicious transactions.
Especially since Ledger recently faced controversies over hardware supply chain security, the biggest concern for everyone is whether it can truly deliver on its promise of security.
