According to the Q3 2026 Security Report released by blockchain security firm Hacken, a total of 107 crypto security incidents were recorded this quarter, with cumulative losses reaching $1.18 billion—marking the highest single-quarter loss since Q1 2025. The report highlights that supply chain vendor breaches, tampered developer tools, and unaudited infrastructure vulnerabilities accounted for 77% of the losses (approximately $906 million). Losses were highly concentrated, with the top four incidents making up 80% of the total, including the Bitget hack ($387 million), Liquid Network vulnerability ($320 million), Tectonic vulnerability ($120 million), and Coldcard firmware exploit (around $115 million). Smart contract vulnerabilities remained the most frequent attack vector, with 71 incidents causing $228 million in losses. In terms of fund recovery, about 33% ($387 million) of the stolen funds were recovered or reversed. Platforms raised $410 million for compensation, with Bitget’s protection fund fully covering the $387 million loss. Ultimately, around 32% ($384 million) of the losses were neither recovered nor compensated.
