[South Korea Plans Comprehensive Upgrade of Financial Cybersecurity, 130 Institutions Found with Security Flaws] According to Cointelegraph, the South Korean Financial Services Commission (FSC) has announced plans to implement stricter cybersecurity assessment systems. A recent industry-wide review revealed that 130 out of 555 financial companies had cybersecurity vulnerabilities, leading to the leakage of approximately 100,000 pieces of customer information (including names, contact details, and ID numbers). This rectification effort stems from investigations into earlier security incidents involving 16 companies, including several cryptocurrency exchanges. Affected institutions include Gopax operator Streami and the crypto exchange platform Prabang—the latter disclosed a hacking incident on October 2 that resulted in the leakage of some customers' personal information. The reform plan mandates that large financial institutions undergo at least two vulnerability assessments annually, aims to enhance information sharing, introduces AI monitoring for small and medium-sized companies, and allows for unscheduled inspections in the event of urgent threats.
