[U.S. September CPI Preview: Fed's October Rate Hike Pressure Expected to Ease, But Debate Over Hikes Remains Unresolved] Jin10 News, October 14 – The market generally expects the overall U.S. September CPI to rise significantly, but the core CPI, excluding food and energy, is anticipated to slow on a month-over-month basis. This would reduce the urgency for the Federal Reserve to raise rates again in October. The Fed raised rates as expected last month and signaled the possibility of further hikes. However, weak September employment data, combined with July and August PCE inflation coming in below expectations, has significantly cooled market expectations for an October rate hike. Scott Anderson, Chief U.S. Economist at BMO Capital Markets, noted that if the September core CPI monthly rate can remain in the 0.2% range, it would be sufficient to support the Fed holding steady in October. However, he also warned that this does not mean the debate over whether further rate hikes are necessary has come to an end.
