[US Media: OpenAI Supports Bipartisan House Proposal on AI Safety Regulation]
According to Politico, artificial intelligence giant OpenAI supports a bipartisan proposal in the U.S. House of Representatives that would require leading AI companies to introduce external evaluation bodies to ensure the safety of their models. Chris Lehane, OpenAI's Head of Global Affairs, stated on Tuesday that the company supports a key provision in the FRONTIER Act. The bill, proposed by Republican Representative Jay Obernolte and Democratic Representative Lori Trahan, aims to establish the first federal-level AI safety framework in the United States. The legislation includes several provisions, such as requiring leading AI labs to allow 'Independent Verification Organizations' (IVOs) access to their internal operations to ensure models are developed safely.
