Almost a year after Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica, the effects are still being felt by families across the island. Many Jamaicans are still trying to rebuild their homes, restore their livelihoods and get back on their feet.
That is why we are grateful to the team behind this special initiative in the World Rally Championship, which is using the sport to raise awareness about Jamaica’s recovery and encourage support for our people.
The Jamaican flag now covers their rally car, and throughout the events, they have been sharing the message of http://supportjamaica.gov.jm, distributing bracelets and other materials to encourage people to contribute to our national recovery effort. The driver has also committed to donating his racing overalls for auction, with the proceeds going towards Jamaica.
What touched me most was the decision to direct support through the Government’s official recovery initiative so that contributions can be accounted for and used to assist the people who need help.
We are deeply thankful to everyone who continues to remember Jamaica and find ways to help us rebuild. Every act of kindness matters to the families still recovering from Melissa, and we welcome all well-wishers who are willing to stand with us.
