South Korea's Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment, Kim Sung-hwan, stated that the additional electricity demand brought by AI development alone will reach 25 to 30GW. The South Korean government plans to update its long-term energy roadmap next month, extending the planning period to 2040, and is considering whether to include plans for building more nuclear reactors. If all the additional electricity is supplied by nuclear energy, based on South Korea's current self-designed reactor standards, it would be equivalent to the installed capacity of approximately 20 nuclear reactors. Currently, South Korea has 26 nuclear reactors, which supply nearly one-third of the nation's electricity.
