[India Adds $13.3 Billion Fund to Boost Chip Manufacturing Development]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on July 15, India's Minister of Electronics and Information Technology announced on Wednesday that India has committed an additional ₹1.28 trillion (approximately $13.3 billion) in funding to bolster its domestic chip manufacturing industry and advance its ambitious goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub. This initiative builds upon India's previous $10 billion incentive program launched in 2021, which had promised to cover half the construction costs of semiconductor projects. Earlier efforts helped India kickstart the development of its chip industry, attracting companies like U.S.-based memory chip manufacturer Micron Technology and the Tata Group, whose business spans sectors from salt production to software, to Gujarat in western India. Indian Prime Minister Modi is working to strengthen India's chip industry layout. Currently, the plan remains in its early stages, with only a few large-scale projects underway. India aims to leverage its engineering and design talent advantages, along with various subsidy policies, to attract major chip manufacturers to set up operations. (Jin10)
