[U.S. Appeals Court Temporarily Halts Adverse Ruling on Trump's 10% Global Tariff]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 13, a U.S. appeals court on Tuesday temporarily stayed a lower court's adverse ruling against the Trump administration's 10% global tariff imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act, allowing these tariffs to continue to apply to three importers that were granted exemptions last week. The U.S. Court of International Trade ruled against these new tariffs last Friday but did not fully prohibit their collection, prompting the Trump administration to file an appeal. During the suspension of the ruling, these tariffs will once again apply to the two companies and Washington State that initiated the lawsuit.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a short-term administrative stay and is currently considering whether to implement a longer-term suspension. Washington State was identified as an importer because it paid the relevant tariffs through its public research institution, the University of Washington. The companies involved and Washington State have seven days to oppose the extension of the stay on their favorable ruling.
The 10% global tariff, implemented in February this year, is set to expire in July.
