[Apple May Face $38 Billion Antitrust Fine in India] According to a report by Jinse Finance on April 21, citing a report from Caixin on April 20, India's regulatory authorities have decided to expedite the ruling on Apple's fine in an antitrust case due to its failure to submit relevant data. The fine could reach up to $38 billion, with the final hearing scheduled for May 21. The antitrust case dates back to 2021, when the Alliance of Indian Startups and Tinder's parent company, Match, filed a lawsuit against Apple. They alleged that Apple forced developers to use its proprietary in-app purchase system and charged exorbitant commissions, which constituted an abuse of market dominance. In 2024, India introduced new antitrust regulations, explicitly allowing regulators to calculate fines based on a company's global revenue rather than just its revenue within India. In November 2025, Apple filed a lawsuit with the Delhi High Court challenging the legality of the new regulations, arguing that if the fine were calculated as 10% of the average global revenue from its services business over the past three fiscal years, it could reach up to $38 billion. In January this year, the Competition Commission of India opposed Apple's challenge.
