[AI-Driven Nuclear Energy Demand, U.S. Targets Namibia's Uranium Mines] According to a report by Golden Finance, on April 17, U.S. Ambassador to Namibia John Giordano stated in an interview on Friday that the United States is considering increasing uranium imports from Namibia, the world's third-largest uranium producer, and supporting greater production of this nuclear fuel through financing from its mining companies and government. He said, 'The uranium here is a significant asset for both our countries.' He emphasized that uranium is critical for nuclear power plants required by AI data centers, adding, 'The U.S. is very interested in the prospects of importing uranium.' Namibia is located along a logistics corridor connecting the copper belt regions of Congo and Zambia. The U.S. government is supporting Congo's critical mineral supply chain in exchange for increased production to be transported westward via Angola's Lobito railway corridor. The ambassador expressed hopes to establish a 'Southern Africa Energy Corridor' and mentioned ongoing discussions with multiple U.S. agencies and private investors regarding project financing.
