Vice President JD Vance shared the U.S. stance, emphasizing that while America is willing to show flexibility in negotiations, there’s one clear bottom line—it’s absolutely necessary to see nuclear materials removed from Iran.
He mentioned that during previous negotiations, the U.S. had figured out Iran’s negotiation patterns. He revealed that the reason the U.S. walked away from talks in Pakistan was because it discovered that the Iranian delegation at the time didn’t have the authority to make final decisions. They had to return to Tehran to consult with the Supreme Leader or other senior officials and obtain approval before agreeing to the terms set by the U.S.
He believes that regardless of whether there will be further dialogue or if a final agreement can be reached, the “ball is in Iran’s court” (the initiative lies with Iran). He stated that the U.S. has already put a lot on the table and has clearly defined its “red lines.”
He conveyed the U.S. President’s stance, saying that if Iran could become a normal country with a functioning economy that allows its people to thrive, the U.S. would be very supportive. However, he stressed that for Iran to normalize economically, it must also act like a normal country by not pursuing nuclear weapons and not engaging in terrorism.
In conclusion, he summarized that there is indeed a possibility for both sides to reach a “grand deal,” but ultimately, everything hinges on the decisions made by the Iranian people.
