Woke up this morning to see that @nikitabier has changed X's rules again. We talked before about how X's registration location principle is like a hidden perk—especially for users in Japan and the U.S., where the benefits are maxed out. After this was exposed, many people started using VPNs to change their posting location to Japan or the U.S. Now it seems X is planning to bind geographic location with language, increasing local exposure weight. For example, using English in the U.S. will keep the same weight, but using Chinese in the U.S. might affect revenue weight. For instance, if I’m in Singapore + posting in Chinese, even if my Chinese posts get a lot of views in Japan or the U.S., the display volume (in English) from those regions will have lower weight when calculating revenue. However, if my content resonates with local Chinese users in Japan or the U.S., that part of the weight will be higher. But since my physical location is in Singapore, it’s relatively harder to transmit to Japan or the U.S. directly—it would require secondary or tertiary dissemination. As for posting purely about U.S. or Japanese domestic political topics in Chinese, many overseas accounts used to rely on this to farm U.S. and Japanese traffic for profit. Now, the efficiency of cross-region revenue will significantly decrease. That said, this change has been temporarily halted by Elon Musk, mainly because it affects too many overseas English-speaking users' rights. No word yet on when it will be implemented.
