Elon Musk's post today confirmed the exclusive report by The Wall Street Journal earlier, stating that SpaceX is adjusting its strategic direction, temporarily shelving the Mars landing plan to fully focus on completing the lunar mission by March 2027.
Going to Mars only has a launch window every 26 months, and the flight takes 6 months. In contrast, going to the Moon allows rocket launches roughly every 10 days, with a flight time of about 2 days.
This means the speed of building a lunar city is much faster than building a Martian city. The current top priority is to ensure the future of human civilization as quickly as possible, and the path to the Moon is clearly faster.
