Looking back at the CCTV report on the Yao Qian case, there’s a detail worth everyone’s attention.
For assets stored long-term in hardware wallets, make sure to make good use of the Passphrase feature, also known as the 'hidden wallet' in OneKey.
Here’s a quick explanation of the principle: the 12/24-word seed phrase of a hardware wallet is still the foundation. Based on this seed phrase, you can set different Passphrases (any combination of characters and numbers) to generate multiple wallet addresses. In other words, 'seed phrase + Passphrase 1' = Address 1, 'seed phrase + Passphrase 2' = Address 2… You can create as many as you want.
There are two key benefits to doing this:
First, you can store different amounts of assets in different addresses. In extreme situations, depending on the circumstances, you can input different Passphrases to unlock the corresponding wallet and minimize losses.
Second, even if the 12-word seed phrase is leaked, the Passphrase acts as the last line of defense, so losses aren’t necessarily inevitable.
However, keep in mind that the Passphrase is not stored in the hardware wallet. If you lose it, it cannot be recovered. Make sure to remember it well.
If you’re holding crypto long-term, you must make good use of this feature.
