Zcash's privacy design has actually been 'optional privacy' from the start—z-addresses offer privacy protection, while t-addresses are transparent and traceable. SlowMist's Cosine made a great analogy: Bitcoin is like HTTP, Zcash is like HTTP/HTTPS. This design gives ZEC an advantage in regulatory acceptance compared to Monero, but it also explains why mainstream platforms mostly use t-addresses. The balance between privacy and compliance has always been a core issue in cryptocurrency development.
