The announcement of Chainlink's partnership with Infosys has garnered significant attention due to its implied scale. Over 1.7 billion accounts are reportedly served by the digital banking infrastructure provided by Infosys Finacle worldwide. However, a closer look is necessary to determine the true significance for Chainlink (LINK) itself.

Making integration substantially easier

The goal of the collaboration is to incorporate Chainlink services and the Chainlink Runtime Environment into the Infosys Finacle Digital Assets platform. Financial institutions utilizing Finacle infrastructure may find it simpler to integrate blockchain-based assets and services with conventional banking systems as a result.

Chainlink's Infosys partnership hit the feed on Sep 22 framed around 1.7 billion bank accounts. The deal names no bank and no timeline. On-chain, $LINK added 1,344 new addresses that day.

However, neither a specific bank's deployment of the technology nor a specific implementation timeline is mentioned in the announcement. Because of this, the 1.7 billion-account figure is more representative of possible distribution than of instant adoption.

There is also little indication of an immediate response in on-chain activity. Santiment data indicates that 1,344 new LINK addresses were added on September 22, compared to 1,556 the day before. That number was not particularly remarkable, even though it was still about 19% higher than the average for September. Eleven days since August 1 saw higher numbers, with the metric hitting 1,929 on August 21.

LINK grows in the long term

The overall trend appears to be a little stronger. LINK has gained about 60% since Aug. 1, while average daily new addresses increased by about 25% when comparing August 1–10 with September 1–21. Nevertheless, on the day of the partnership announcement, LINK fell by about 1%, indicating that traders did not immediately reprice the token in response to the news.

Chainlink adoption and LINK demand differ in another crucial way. With the infrastructure taking care of conversion, Chainlink's Payment Abstraction system enables business users to pay fees with assets like fiat or stablecoins. As a result, a bank may be able to utilize infrastructure powered by Chainlink without actually buying or holding LINK.

Chainlink's potential enterprise distribution is thus greatly increased by the Infosys deal, but its impact on the token is still less obvious. The more significant signals for LINK will come later, such as real bank deployments, consistent increases in network usage, and proof that expanding enterprise activity results in greater demand for the token.
