Key Takeaways

  • Brazil’s OranjeBTC is launching the DIGY11 ETF, giving locals regulated exposure to bitcoin-heavy stocks.
  • Debuting in September, the fund pays monthly in Brazilian currency and yields up to 5% over bank rates.
  • This expands the US digital credit model to Latin America, blending income with heavy asset protection.

OranjeBTC, one of the largest bitcoin treasury companies in Brazil, has announced a move to open local markets to bitcoin digital credit options.

During Blockchain Rio, the company unveiled DIGY11, an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that will offer exposure to shares issued by Strategy (through STRC) and Strive (through SATA), and would distribute the income received by the management of these assets each month in Brazilian currency.

For future additions, issuers must hold at least 50% of their total assets in bitcoin and hold a minimum of 4,000 BTC, limiting the fund to bitcoin-focused stocks.

Managed by 3R Investimentos, following a reference index provided by MarketVector and being administered by Banco Daycoval, the ETF will feature exchange rate protection and is expected to debut on Brazil’s B3 in September, and will not invest in BTC directly.

Yields are expected to reach the average interbank deposit rate plus up to 5% per year, targeting monthly distributions.

“We developed DIGY11 based on the revolution that Strategy and Strive are promoting in the US capital markets. These are instruments that combine recurring income with high asset protection, backed by some of the largest Bitcoin balance sheets in the world.” Guilherme Gomes, founder and CEO of OranjeBTC, declared.

He explained that the company’s goal was to transform this innovation so that local Brazilian investors could access these opportunities on regulated channels. He also stressed that the instrument was supported in the balance sheets of the companies involved.

“For every dollar of annual distribution, there is relevant equity coverage in Bitcoin and cash. It is a differentiated structure, which combines recurring income with global, liquid and scarce assets,” he highlighted.

Strategy’s Executive Chairman, Michael Saylor, celebrated the expansion of the so-called Digital Credit asset class. “Seeing it reach Latin American investors through a local, regulated vehicle is exactly the kind of expansion STRC was created to enable,” he concluded.
