As the XRP community celebrates the successful uncovering of an $8.5 million XRP staking scam by the South Korean police, an XRP Ledger Validator Vet has warned that the biggest wave of scam attempts may still be ahead.

While the rising cases of malicious attacks are increasingly becoming concerning, the validator has issued a crucial warning amid anticipations of a major event.

XRPL's first lending protocol could pose more threats

The warning from Vet came amid the viral news of the arrest of individuals accused of stealing 3.4 million XRP from community members through a fraudulent investment scheme.

The fraudulent transactions promised attractive returns from XRP "staking" and yield-generating activities.

While the arrest appears to have given the XRP community a sense of security, the validator has warned that this is not the time to let their guard down, especially as there is a major protocol preparing to enter the ecosystem.

He warned that the upcoming launch of the XRP Ledger's first lending protocol is likely to create fresh opportunities for scammers to develop new tactics to rob people of their funds through the new development. Over the years, the community has witnessed scammers constantly adapting their tactics to exploit new developments to scam unguarded users.

More scammers ahead?

Vet has further urged that as many legitimate lending platforms are expected to emerge, cybercriminals should also be expected to use the excitement surrounding the launch to promote fraudulent schemes.

According to the validator, the XRP community should expect an increase in both genuine offerings and scam attempts as the first lending protocol prepares to launch on the XRP Ledger.
