In essence, X and the old banyan tree.

In essence, X and the old banyan tree, Tianya, Mop, and even early Zhihu are not too different; they all initially hoped to have depth, professionalism, and their own discussion space. However, with the entry of capital, the products inevitably compromise with capital, which is unavoidable. As a result, we can see that the old banyan tree is gone, Tianya is almost gone, Mop is nearly gone as well, and the current Zhihu is just a combination of storytelling and short videos.

Now X is more complicated. From a capital perspective, Musk's acquisition of X is not a profitable endeavor. Aside from helping Trump in the 2024 election, from a financial investment angle, X is still causing Musk losses. I don't know the true intent behind Musk's acquisition of Twitter, but it definitely won't be for the purpose of losing money.

Therefore, we can see that after Musk took over, the first action was layoffs, followed by the introduction of a Premium subscription mechanism, and then the integration with Grok and XAI. The goal is to find other revenue breakthroughs, with X and Facebook being two not entirely different paths.

Facebook focuses on socializing with acquaintances, while X deals with interactions among strangers, which determines that the ultimate trajectory of X is likely to overlap with Douyin and Xiaohongshu. General traffic is unavoidable. For X, whether users are deep content creators or cross-platform couriers essentially makes no difference; the only disparity is which platform brings in more traffic.

However, the current issue has changed. Cross-platform transportation may face lawsuits from creators on other platforms or even the original platform. Although X might not have to pay fines, actions such as account suspension still need to be carried out. This is also why cross-platform transport, especially from renowned platforms, often faces account bans.

But the biggest advantage of X lies in vertical content. For example, a political blogger with 5 million followers might not earn more than a native crypto blogger with 50,000 followers.

In simple terms, if your goal is to get Musk's salary, then more general traffic is undoubtedly better. There is no question about that, but the ceiling for making such money is limited. It's easiest to earn in the initial stages of platform subsidies; once the peak of subsidies has passed or when everyone is engaging in general traffic, income will sharply decline. This is not just my opinion; the market for short videos has taught us this lesson countless times.

For content creators, if the goal is to make money, I believe it's really hard to write really good content. Content output should first represent one’s ideas and perspectives, just like trading reflects one’s trading thoughts. If it's merely to earn Musk's money or advertising revenue, I personally feel that the writing won't be as good as AI.

Therefore, as a content creator, the primary goal should be self-improvement. Whether it’s sharing ideas or trading strategies, what’s needed is the clash of thoughts with different partners, refining one’s concepts, and helping to improve one's investment success rate. If one is solely focused on Musk or advertising revenue, it’s likely that trading won’t do well, and the content produced will also be mediocre, resulting in no satisfaction from either side.

This time in Japan, many friends told me that although they never comment or like, they almost read every tweet, hoping to see viewpoints different from their own. Whether I am right or wrong is not important; what matters is that we can mutually verify.

Let’s encourage each other.
