PANews May 6 news, according to Cointelegraph, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton stated in a letter submitted to the court, suggesting that former Celsius Chief Revenue Officer Roni Cohen-Pavon be given a lighter sentence for providing the government with "substantial assistance" and preparing to testify against former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky. The prosecutor did not propose a specific sentence but asked the judge to consider "appropriate sentencing reductions" based on the sentencing guidelines.
Clayton stated that Cohen-Pavon's plea and cooperation could be significant factors in Mashinsky's decision to plead guilty months before the trial date in January 2025. Cohen-Pavon pleaded guilty in September 2023 to conspiracy charges related to fraud and price manipulation associated with the Celsius token CEL. Mashinsky was sentenced to 12 years in prison in May 2025. Cohen-Pavon's lawyer requested that his pre-trial detention time be counted towards his sentence, with no additional incarceration imposed.
