PANews April 29 news, according to The Block, USDT issuer Tether's 12% shareholder, billionaire Christopher Harborne, provided approximately £5 million in personal gifts to Reform UK party leader Nigel Farage in 2024 for his security expenditure. The related funds were not publicly disclosed according to UK campaign finance regulations. Public documents show that Harborne had previously donated approximately £12 million to Reform UK. Reform UK advocates for making the UK a global crypto hub and supports lowering capital gains tax on crypto assets, being the UK's first party to accept crypto donations. A few weeks before the above disclosure, the UK had announced a ban on political donations in crypto form, citing that crypto can obscure the source of funds and may be used for foreign influence.
