Coinbase has expanded its global derivatives business with the launch of stock perpetual futures. This makes it one of the first major centralized exchanges to offer this type of product.
The new feature allows users to trade synthetic versions of U.S. stocks at any time, including weekends. Unlike traditional stock markets, which follow fixed hours, this product runs 24/7.

At launch, traders can access a selection of well-known companies. These include Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, NVIDIA, Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet. Coinbase is also offering ETF-based products such as the S&P 500 (SPY) and Nasdaq-100 (QQQ), where allowed.
This launch comes as demand grows for round-the-clock access to equities. Many traders, especially outside the United States, face barriers when trying to invest in U.S. stocks. Until now, much of this activity has taken place on decentralized platforms.
Coinbase aims to bring this demand into a regulated environment. The platform offers risk controls designed for both retail and institutional users.
The product includes up to 10x leverage for single stocks and up to 20x for ETFs. Trades are settled in USDC. Users can also use cross-margining across derivatives and spot markets. Access is available through Coinbase’s advanced trading tools and APIs, as well as its international exchange.
This move supports Coinbase’s long-term goal of building an “Everything Exchange.” The company wants to offer crypto, traditional assets, and new financial products in one place.
For retail users, the main benefit is flexibility. They can react to global news at any time. For institutions, the product offers new ways to manage risk and hedge positions, even when traditional markets are closed.
The service is available in selected regions through Coinbase Bermuda, which is regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
