the Han people themselves lacked horses and had almost no warhorses, and archery required practice from a young age; it would take over a decade to reach a combat level, and Han soldiers were almost all unable to shoot arrows, let alone "mounted archery";

by the late Qing, firearms had developed to the point of having rifled breech-loading rifles, and a soldier could become proficient in just a few weeks, while cavalry facing breech-loading rifles had only reconnaissance and pursuit left;

since the advantage of Eight Banner mounted archery had disappeared, the late Qing lost the foundation and strength to continue ruling, and its collapse was inevitable!
