At the end of yesterday's article, a reader left a comment mentioning a very good point:
“The problem with Virtual is that the trend hasn't reached blockchain yet. The Molt ecosystem does not need blockchain. ... Only when there is large-scale cooperation between agents and financial transactions are needed does blockchain come into play.”
My understanding of this viewpoint is:
For the current AI ecosystem, since it has not yet involved large-scale financial interactions, cryptocurrency technology and crypto assets are at most supplementary, like adding fuel or excitement; in fact, it seems that the current AI ecosystem could develop well even without cryptocurrency technology or crypto assets.
If we also consider Vitalik's recent commentary on the development issues of social applications in the crypto ecosystem, this viewpoint becomes even clearer.
I have mentioned Vitalik's point in a previous article (the gist is): Some social applications focus too much on economic incentives and overlook other more important aspects.
It now appears that, in the AI + Crypto space, this issue is increasingly manifesting.
Because for any Web 2 application, launching a coin or creating a token platform based on its theme is incredibly simple, issuing coins and creating token platforms have practically become standard features of every popular Web 2 application, not only in terms of "quality" but also "efficiency."
But how much positive impact do these issued coins and created platforms actually have on this Web 2 application? If they were missing, could this application still thrive? Very few people seem to consider these questions.
The AI field is no exception.
From the day the Molt ecosystem gave birth to Moltbook, it synchronously spawned a large number of tokens.
In my previous articles, I merely reminded our readers that these tokens could only be regarded as meme coins at least at this current stage—if one purely wants to entertain themselves with emotions, that's fine; but if considering it from an investment perspective, then one must be very cautious.
However, it now seems to me that we need to be even more cautious with these coins and platforms.
For example, these past two days, amidst a cooling market for the previously issued various tokens, a new inscription project emerged: an inscription that only Agents can create.
With the birth of this inscription project, various tutorials have popped up like mushrooms after rain, and the internet has compiled a complete set of tutorials to teach users how to operate and how to create their own Agents to create inscriptions.
Seeing this project, I immediately thought of the once-popular wave of inscriptions.
I estimate that many people might think this:
Since a Reddit-like Moltbook can become popular, can't this AI Agent inscription, analogous to the previous wave of inscriptions, also become popular?
But I believe this kind of simple analogy is probably very risky.
Firstly, even Moltboot is still in the experimental stage, and whether it can become popular in the future still needs further observation.
The most important significance of Moltbook is that it has created a social ecosystem for Agents, but whether this ecosystem is the ultimate ecosystem for Agent socializing is still too early to judge.
This is similar to the early development of the internet, where BBS was undoubtedly a milestone application, but it quickly exited the historical stage.
If the future development of the Molt ecosystem still needs to be observed, then the variability in the future development of the Agent inscription is even greater.
Additionally, we can still apply the previous logic to make a judgment:
Can the current Molt ecosystem continue to develop without this inscription?
In my view, the Molt ecosystem can definitely continue to develop without this inscription.
This method can not only be used to evaluate this inscription project, but I think it can also be extended to judge new projects that may continue to emerge in the future.
Therefore, for these projects, I will only observe more, act less, or not act at all.
