The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are going to update the crypto industry regarding the treatment of crypto assets and how these will harmonize their competencies in the current digital assets ecosystem.
Both institutions announced a joint event on January 27, aimed at coordinating efforts to not interfere with each other when policing and enforcing crypto regulation. According to a press release, this move seeks to “deliver on President Trump’s promise to make the United States the crypto capital of the world.”

The event will take place at the CFTC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and will be hosted by cryptocurrency journalist Eleanor Terrett.
Both officials acknowledged that “for too long, market participants have been forced to navigate regulatory boundaries that are unclear in application and misaligned in design, based solely on legacy jurisdictional silos.”
They stated that:
“This event will build on our broader harmonization efforts to ensure that innovation takes root on American soil, under American law, and in service of American investors, consumers, and economic leadership.”
The event gets announced after the Senate Banking Committee postponed the markup for the CLARITY Act, as there are still deep disagreements regarding key elements of this proposal, including the issuance of yield for stablecoin holders.
Nonetheless, even with this setback, President Trump stressed recently in Davos that he hoped to sign the bill soon, calling on all involved to arrange their differences and make compromises to pass it shortly.
