A growing focus on global market access emerged as Robinhood Markets, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD) said on Dec. 8 that it entered agreements to acquire Indonesian brokerage PT Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed digital asset trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, outlining plans for expanded equities and crypto services.

The announcement states:

With more than 19 million capital market investors and 17 million crypto investors, Indonesia is a compelling market for equities and crypto trading.

Patrick Chan, head of Asia at Robinhood, said: “Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an exciting place to further Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance for all.” He emphasized the company’s intention to introduce its established platform to local customers. Pieter Tanuri, identified as the majority owner of both Indonesian firms, will remain as a strategic advisor, reinforcing continuity for existing operations.

Robinhood explained that, following the acquisition of Buana Capital, it will continue serving brokerage customers with Indonesian financial products while preparing to introduce broader offerings such as access to U.S. equities, cryptocurrencies, and additional investment tools at scale. The company noted that each deal is subject to regulatory clearance, including approval from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority, and it expects both transactions to close in the first half of 2026.

Reflecting the firm’s long-term strategy to expand across Southeast Asia, Chan opined:

We look forward to bringing Indonesians the same innovative services that have earned the trust of Robinhood customers globally.

While regulatory reviews may influence timing, Indonesia’s fast-growing crypto and equities participation suggests a sizable opportunity for digital investing platforms as global markets become increasingly accessible.
