Ripple issued an insight this week highlighting heightened holiday-season fraud and urging consumers to recognize the signals of crypto-related scams. The company noted that scammers often exploit year-end online activity, making education and early detection essential to reducing victimization during a period when digital engagements typically increase.
The insight states:
Promises like ‘Send 5 XRP and get 50 XRP back’ are always fake – no legitimate company or individual runs promotions requiring you to send crypto first.
It adds: “In some cases, scammers proactively contact individuals on social platforms while posing as legitimate figures and others use AI-generated voice cloning or deepfake videos.” The insight stresses that attackers now use copied branding, altered URLs, urgent messaging, and fabricated social comments to lure targets, underscoring the need for users to slow down and verify before interacting with unsolicited offers.

The Tech Against Scams Coalition (TASC), initiated by Coinbase in partnership with crypto firms including Ripple, Kraken, and Gemini, is launching Scamberry Pie, a holiday initiative intended to encourage conversations about scam warning signs. The effort aims to make scam education approachable and memorable by linking it to common gathering moments. Dennis Jarosch, SVP of Engineering at Ripple, opined: “Education is one of the strongest tools to help protect people from scams. When people understand what to look for, they are better able to protect themselves and others. Scamberry Pie offers a simple way for families and communities to discuss warning signs, share experiences, and support one another.”

The company detailed the scale of its threat-mitigation program, describing malicious domain detection tools that have enabled the removal of more than 7,000 scam websites. A collaboration with Google Safe Browsing has prevented over 68,000 attempted visits to malicious crypto domains through Chrome warnings. Ripple also worked with Youtube to eliminate more than 8,000 fraudulent “Live” videos promoting crypto scams, with 85% taken down in under 90 minutes. Its 2024 threat feed distributes intelligence to industry partners in near real time and has contributed to a reduction of more than 90% in known XRP losses reported from scams.
Ripple emphasized:
Ripple invests heavily in consumer protection—both by removing threats and by helping others across the industry identify them quickly.
