I took a general look at some of the award-winning projects from the @solana x402 hackathon and found that there isn't much hype around narratives like Facilitator and Launchpad. Instead, the focus is on how to make it easier for Agents to access payment tools and services:
- Galaksio aims to solve the problem of on-demand access to GPU computing resources to optimize the cost of computing services;
- PayPerPrompt is aggregating APIs for LLM models, allowing Agents to pay per prompt to access various models like GPT/Claude/Gemini;
- Triton Gateway packages Solana's historical data into a paid x402 interface, where developers pay per query without needing to run a full node;
- x402 Oracle offers oracle calls on a per-use basis, and StreamPay enables content to be paid for by the second, etc.
The common characteristic of these projects is their practicality, focusing on how to discover services and integrate them into a seamless payment infrastructure loop.
As for the competition among Facilitators regarding who is cheaper, who is more stable, or who has farming effects, or among Launchpads regarding whose token issuance mechanism is fairer and who can better solve asset value empowerment and liquidity design, such narrative-driven projects are almost absent among the award-winning projects in Solana.
This is actually quite normal; in the current phase of poor market liquidity, purely telling stories just doesn't work anymore!
This is also a core logic underlying the x402 track: no matter what is being hyped, it ultimately needs to translate into more convenient and practical payment capabilities. In other words, without the transaction volume of payment gateways and without the actual demand for Agents to widely access paid services, even the cheapest Facilitator tokens will just be spinning in place;
This is why I have always emphasized that the x402 Provider layer is severely undervalued. Whoever can aggregate more LLM interfaces, computing resources, and data services, and enable Agents to complete calls with the lowest friction cost, will hold the true entry point to the x402 ecosystem.
As the infrastructure of the tool and service layers matures, the competition among Facilitators and Launchpads will enter a truly valuable stage.
Of course, this is also the fundamental reason why I remain optimistic about the x402 track in the long term. True Builders do not just stay at the narrative level as many might think; there are indeed many projects that are addressing real needs and problems.
