Ethereum's second major upgrade of the year, Fusaka, has gone live, bringing enhanced data capacity, lower transaction costs, and improved usability.
This upgrade was officially launched on Wednesday at 9:49 PM (UTC) during the 411392nd Epoch of the Ethereum mainnet. Its core feature is Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS), which provides significant scalability for Ethereum and layer two networks.
Earlier this week, the Ethereum Foundation published a detailed post via the Ethereum X account, outlining the implications of this upgrade for users, developers, node operators, layer two networks, Rollups, and enterprises.
The Ethereum Foundation stated that Fusaka brings Ethereum one step closer to providing "near-instant transactions," with speed improvements leading to a smoother user experience.
In terms of layer two networks and Rollups, Fusaka will "unlock up to 8 times the data throughput" through PeerDAS, as it creates a more efficient way to process information on the network.
In simple terms, PeerDAS breaks down entire Rollup data blocks into smaller units. This significantly reduces the amount of data that nodes need to download and upload, allowing them to process information faster and enabling layer two networks to interact more efficiently with the Ethereum mainnet.
"For Rollups, this means cheaper blob fees and more room for growth (and lower costs for users), while maintaining the decentralization of the network," the Ethereum Foundation stated.
Given the range of underlying enhancements that Fusaka will provide, the market is eager to see how the price of Ether (ETH) will react.
In a post on X on Sunday, MerlijnTrader emphasized to his 404,700 followers the impact of the last Ethereum upgrade, Pectra, on ETH, predicting that this time the price will see a larger increase.
On November 29, Bitcoin OG @LLuciano_BTC expressed a similar view to his 2 million X followers.
"Fusaka feels more significant; it's the kind of catalyst that can trigger a real rally," he said, adding, "Ethereum has finally shown how far scalability can go while maintaining its design philosophy."
