The next grand goal of Elon Musk's business empire may be to bring artificial intelligence to deep space.

The latest signal comes from Musk's recent interview with investor Nikhil Kamath. Musk hinted at the future integration of core technologies from SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI to deploy solar-powered artificial intelligence satellites in deep space.

Musk explicitly stated in the interview that he sees an "increasing fusion" between SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI. He believes that the key to the future lies in solar-powered AI satellites, and to harness the sun's energy on a large scale, one must venture into deep space.

Musk later seemed to confirm the name of this fusion concept on the social platform X—"Galaxy Mind," a platform aimed at utilizing solar energy to power AI computations beyond Earth's orbit. According to discovered trademark documents, an entity named "Galactica" has also been registered.

For the market, this vision represents not only a bold technological exploration but also a potential business model. It aims to package Tesla's energy technology, SpaceX's launch capabilities, and xAI's cutting-edge models into a brand new space AI solution, potentially opening up a vast growth space driven by synergies.

Tesla + SpaceX + xAI = Space AI Disruption?

Musk's core idea is that future large-scale artificial intelligence computations will rely on solar energy in space. He pointed out in the interview: "If you want to utilize a significant portion of solar energy, you must turn to solar AI satellites in deep space." He believes this is the "convergence point" of Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI's expertise.

Specifically, the realization of this blueprint relies on clear division of labor and collaboration among the three companies:

  • SpaceX: Provides mature rocket launch and spacecraft manufacturing capabilities, responsible for deploying AI satellites into deep space orbits.
  • Tesla: With its accumulation in solar energy and battery technology, provides efficient and durable energy solutions for the satellites.
  • xAI: Responsible for developing cutting-edge artificial intelligence models that can operate on a large scale on the satellites.

Musk expressed pride in the work of his teams and added, "Over time, it does feel like there is a certain degree of fusion."

"Galaxy Mind" and "Galactica": The Emergence of a New Entity?

"Galaxy Mind" is not only a technological concept but may also become a future business entity. According to Musk's statements on the X platform last month, one of the goals of the initiative is to back up copies of human knowledge in space, as well as on other planets and moons, as a hedge against the risk of Earth civilization collapse.

Market observers have already spotted relevant clues. Online information shows that trademarks for "Galaxy Mind" and "Galactica" have been submitted for application. Among them, the application documents for "Galactica" even include a formal logo. Although Musk has mentioned "Galaxy Mind" more frequently in public, the trademark documents suggest that "Galactica" may become the final official company name for the initiative.

The Business Logic Behind Synergies

Musk's latest move continues his consistent business strategy of seeking and maximizing synergies within his portfolio. This is not a baseless idea but is built on the solid foundation already established by each company.

Tesla's energy division has achieved leadership in efficient solar panels and energy storage systems; SpaceX has completely transformed the commercial space and satellite deployment landscape through its Starlink network; meanwhile, xAI is working hard to build large language models capable of large-scale operations, with Musk recently predicting that the probability of its Grok 5 model achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) capabilities is "10% and rising."

From an investor's perspective, this integration plan is about reorganizing mature technologies to explore new markets. It combines SpaceX's physical transportation capabilities, Tesla's energy capabilities, and xAI's intelligent computing capabilities, aiming to address Earth's energy limitations and open up new physical space for AI development. This strategic synergy provides new imaginative space for the long-term growth of Musk's companies.
