Bitwise Asset Management announced on Nov. 26 that it has launched the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (NYSE: BWOW), offering a new exchange-traded route for gaining DOGE exposure. The firm also noted that the management fee will be 0.34%, with a temporary 0% rate on the first $500 million in initial assets.

Hunter Horsley, Bitwise’s CEO, stated on social media platform X: “Crypto is serious technology and I believe it has profound potential to improve the world. It’s also an internet community. For over 12 years, DOGE has endured as a famous part of that culture. Today, we’re delighted to launch $BWOW. Not for everyone, but you can now buy DOGE in a brokerage account.”

In a press statement, the CEO further explained: “DOGE began as a joke and became an icon of the crypto movement. It doesn’t purport to transform global capital markets or convince you it has fundamentals or utility. DOGE is simply a 12-year-old coin based on a picture of a cute dog, people doing good, and the common ideal in crypto that people should have the freedom to do as they choose. And, against the odds, it has kept its relevance—and its value—longer than just about anything else in crypto.” He continued:

Bitwise is launching BWOW because many DOGE holders, a community that numbers in the millions, want the benefit that comes from getting exposure to crypto in an ETP format, and we believe they should have it.

The asset management firm cautioned that the fund is not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and carries elevated risk. The firm underscored dogecoin’s long-standing role as the largest memecoin, pointing to its market capitalization, trading activity on centralized exchanges, and longevity since its 2013 creation.

Bitwise also stressed that BWOW differs from directly buying the crypto itself, though advocates view regulated access as a path to broader adoption. Even with volatility concerns, supporters argue that exchange-traded vehicles can draw more investors into crypto markets, signaling wider mainstream acceptance.

  • What is the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF BWOW designed to provide?
It offers regulated exchange-traded exposure to dogecoin for traditional brokerage investors.
  • Why is the BWOW fee temporarily set to 0%?
Bitwise waived fees on the first $500 million in initial assets to attract early inflows.
  • How does BWOW differ from buying dogecoin directly?
The ETF provides ETP-format access rather than holding DOGE in a personal crypto wallet.
  • Why does Bitwise highlight dogecoin’s cultural longevity?
The firm cites DOGE’s 12-year history and community resilience as drivers of sustained relevance.
