The central government of China has announced members of its national blockchain committee that would work on setting industrial standards.
The committee comprises of 71 members, including executives from Chinese tech giants Baidu and Tencent, according to an announcement from the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Monday.
The "National Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology Standardisation Technical Committee" has been formed after getting approval from the National Standardization Management Committee, said the ministry.
The blockchain committee is chaired by MIIT deputy minister Chen Zhaoxiong, and includes five vice presidents - all government staff - including the one from People's Bank of China Digital Currency Research Institute.
Other members of the committee include executives from notable companies and universities, such as Baidu, Tencent, Huawei, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and more.
Notably, Tencent and its affiliates filed for the most blockchain patents in 2019, as The Block reported last week. Out of a total of over 5,800, Tencent group filed 718 blockchain patents.
The MIIT is seeking public feedback on the committee members until May 12, 2020. "If you have different opinions, please feedback them to the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry [...] and email to [email protected]," said the ministry.
