Grok's "fangirl-style adoration" for Musk reveals why AI must be decentralized.

Elon Musk is more handsome than Brad Pitt, more muscular than LeBron James, and could easily dominate former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in the ring—at least that's the conclusion given by his AI chatbot Grok after the latest 4.1 update released this week.

On Thursday, X users began to notice that Grok was a bit too enthusiastic about its founder. Some responses even suggested that Musk's "resurrection" would happen faster than Jesus Christ. Many of Grok's replies on X have since been deleted.

Although Musk later attributed these "hallucinations" to "adversarial prompts," executives in the crypto industry believe this is a key example of why AI needs to be decentralized as soon as possible.

"When the most powerful AI systems are owned, trained, and managed by a single company, it creates the conditions for algorithmic bias to become institutionalized knowledge," Kyle Okamoto, CTO of decentralized cloud platform Aethir, told Cointelegraph.

Grok was built by Musk's AI company xAI and integrated into his social media platform X. It is one of the most widely used AI chatbots on the internet. Over a billion people use AI, and errors and misleading information can spread rapidly.

Shaw Walters, founder of AI company Eliza Labs, stated that this is an "extremely dangerous" situation.

Shaw's company filed an antitrust lawsuit in August, accusing Musk's X of extracting information from Eliza Labs, then suspending its account on X and launching a mimicking AI product. The case is still ongoing.

An X user named "Meh" asked Grok who would win in a boxing match between Musk and former heavyweight champion Tyson, to which the AI chatbot replied:

The match may not happen, as Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had discussed fighting in a cage—Zuckerberg ultimately canceled the match, claiming Musk "wasn't serious."

Grok also stated that Musk—"without hesitation"—should have been the first overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft instead of former NFL players Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf.

While this sparked a lot of laughter, it highlighted the necessity of decentralizing AI to protect its accuracy, credibility, and fairness.

Blockchain is a highly feasible solution for achieving AI decentralization, as it can store data and computations in a distributed manner on a secure, transparent network, making outputs verifiable and tamper-proof.

However, for many AI startups, decentralizing AI systems is unlikely to be a core focus, as they prioritize enhancing the performance of large language models and scaling outputs to build a solid user base.

Crypto projects like Ocean Protocol, Fetch.ai, and Bittensor are working to decentralize AI data. Companies like Okamoto's Aethir and NetMind.AI focus on distributed cloud computing infrastructure.

Decentralizing AI not only promises to reduce bias and erroneous outputs but also allows the public to verify how AI models operate. This transparency will encourage AI innovators to build more responsible and ethical systems.
