Former UK MP and founder of the UK-US Crypto Alliance, Lisa Cameron, told Cointelegraph that she believes the US and UK are developing a joint "sandbox" to coordinate the two countries' crypto markets.

Cameron stated in an interview with Cointelegraph at the United Nations City office in Copenhagen that, according to her organization’s understanding, "there will be a sandbox" as a result of US-UK collaboration. She added that the UK-US Crypto Alliance is "very excited about this potential."

Cameron indicated that the conclusion was reached after discussions with US senators and members of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) crypto working group. She said she expects the purpose of the sandbox to be "to address some of the issues regarding crypto licensing between the US and UK."

Crypto regulation in the UK seems to be gaining momentum. Earlier on Monday, the Bank of England released a consultation document proposing a regulatory framework for stablecoins. The new framework is similar to the US GENIUS Act, regulating "systemic stablecoins" widely used in payments, denominated in pounds.

The statement was released following recent reports that the US and UK Treasury departments have created a transatlantic working group to explore "short- to medium-term cooperation on digital assets." Reports in mid-September also indicated that the UK and US were preparing to deepen their cooperation on digital assets.

At that time, reports suggested that the UK hoped to emulate the Trump administration's friendly stance towards cryptocurrencies. Similarly, in September, UK trade groups urged the government to incorporate blockchain technology into the "Tech Bridge" technology cooperation with the US.

Cameron expressed concern that "the window of opportunity will close" and emphasized the need for the UK to act swiftly and wisely. She believes that the political priority of crypto regulation is not as high as it should be.

"What worries me and many in the industry is that companies are choosing to leave the UK… and they are heading to other jurisdictions because they feel that even in the startup phase, the industry is not being supported," she said.

Cameron added that the decisive policy direction in the US has intensified the urgency for the UK to act quickly. "I think the political direction in the US regarding emerging frontier technologies is very clear and direct right now, and the UK has no time to waste; it must act very swiftly."
