With the launch of a new Ethereum scaling technology called Pico Prism, Ethereum is one step closer to achieving 10,000 transactions per second.

Brevis, focused on Ethereum scaling, announced on Wednesday the release of a new generation of zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) that supports real-time proofs.

This technology utilizes ordinary retail-grade gaming graphics cards to almost instantly complete the proof of Ethereum blocks without the need for expensive supercomputers.

According to the company, Brevis has achieved real-time proof on the Ethereum mainnet using consumer-grade hardware, noting that it employed 64 Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics cards, which are currently the flagship products in the gaming sector.

In tests conducted in September, Pico Prism achieved 99.6% real-time proof (Real-Time Proof, RTP) within 12 seconds. Real-time proof (RTP) provides a cryptographic proof of correct block execution faster than the generation of new blocks.

Brevis plans to achieve 99% real-time proof using fewer than 16 RTX 5090 graphics cards in the coming months.

This breakthrough means that the costly proof process has finally caught up with block production speed, making lightweight verification possible for the first time using affordable consumer-grade hardware.

Currently, each validator re-executes every transaction to verify blocks, which requires expensive hardware and creates a fundamental bottleneck, Brevis explained.

Ryan Sean Adams from Bankless stated that with a tripling of scaling speed each year, the Ethereum mainnet is expected to reach 10,000 TPS by April 2029.

Bitcoin security researcher Justin Drake explained that the Ethereum Fusaka upgrade is expected to be released in December, which will simplify real-time proof.

"EIP-7825 limits the gas usage per transaction, allowing for more parallel proofs through sub-blocks," he added. "By the end of the year, multiple teams will prove each Ethereum mainnet EVM block on a cluster of 16 graphics cards, with a total power consumption of less than 10,000 watts."

The Ethereum Foundation noted that this "is an important step towards the future of Ethereum," adding, "ZK technologies like Pico Prism will drive Ethereum scaling to meet global demand while maintaining trust and decentralization."

Adams believes that Ethereum is transforming into a zk chain. Layer-1 will run global DeFi, achieving large blocks of 10,000 TPS, with nodes able to run on mobile devices. Layer-2 will handle all other operations.

This is the ultimate goal of blockchain: to achieve large-scale scaling while ensuring decentralization and security.
