A cryptocurrency executive stated that while the four-year cycle of Bitcoin may not develop exactly as it has in the past, the concept has not completely failed.
Gemini's Head of Asia Pacific, Saad Ahmed, told Cointelegraph during the Token2049 event in Singapore, "Regarding the four-year cycle, the reality is that we are likely to continue seeing some form of cycle."
Ahmed added, "This cycle essentially stems from people getting overly excited and over-investing, followed by a crash, and then the market gradually returning to balance."
Ahmed indicated that as institutional investment increases in the crypto industry, the market may better absorb some of the volatility. "You will see some of the volatility gradually diminish, but there will still be some form of cycle because, ultimately, it is driven by human emotions," Ahmed said.
Recently, discussions within the crypto industry about whether Bitcoin's (BTC) four-year cycle still holds relevance have continued.
On August 21, 2025, crypto analytics firm Glassnode stated that Bitcoin's recent price movements may still be following its historical four-year halving cycle.
Crypto analyst Rekt Capital pointed out that if past patterns hold, Bitcoin's cycle peak could occur this month. He mentioned in July that if the current cycle is similar to 2020, the market could reach its peak in October, about 550 days after the halving in April 2024.
Rekt noted, "We have very limited time left for price expansion." However, October 1 marks the beginning of the fourth quarter, which has historically been Bitcoin's strongest quarter since 2013, with an average return of 79.39%, according to data from CoinGlass.
Meanwhile, according to CoinMarketCap data, Bitcoin has risen 11.5% in the past week, reaching a price of $123,850 on Friday, close to the historical high of $124,100 set on August 14.
Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan stated on July 26 that he does not believe Bitcoin's price will completely follow past cycles.
Hougan said, "I bet that 2026 will be a year of growth." He added, "Overall, I think the market will perform well in the coming years."
